Who is Daniele da Volterra?

Born in 1509 Volterra - died in 1566-04-04 Rome


Italian Mannerist painter and sculptor. He was a pupil of Michelangelo, story says that one of his favourites. In history he is known as Il Braghettone - "the breeches maker" because of the decision of the Council of Trent he covered intimate body parts of figures in the Sistine Chapel, a month before the death of Michelangelo. They were removed during the chapel renewal in the 1990s.
