Who is Leon Battista Alberti?

Born in 1404 Genua - died in 1472-04-25 Rome


He was an Italian painter, architect, cartographer, musician, poet, and philosopher. He belonged to the Platonic Academy. He is recognized as an outstanding representative of the humanist mainstream of Italian Renaissance. He claimed that the painting is the most difficult from all of arts because it should provide three-dimensional objects on a plane. In addition claimed that to practice it an artist should have not only talent, but also theoretical knowledge.
