Who is Giotto di Bondone?

Born in 1266 Vicchio - died in 1337 Florence


Legend tells that when Giotto di Bondone was a little boy drew a landscape. Cimabue saw his picture and took boy to his famous art school. We do not know how true is this story, but the fact is that Cimabue was an artist’s great master. His most famous works are frescoes in the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, frescoes in the Scrovegnich chapel in Padua, paintings in the church of Santa Croce in Florence and the frescoes in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in the Vatican City. He is considered as one of the creators of Italian Renaissance.
