The town hall is the main building in the square and it has paticular interest because is the place where is launched the famous 'chupinazo', which opens the popular festival of San Fermines. The chupinazo is released on July 6 every year, the eve of San Fermin's day..
The Town Hall of Pamplona (Iruñeko Udala in Euskara) houses the highest administrative body of the city and the building has a beautiful combination of baroque and neoclassical styles. Its neoclassic pediment as well as various baroque sculptural groups are the most important features. The building has two Hercules on top and two sculptures flanking the entrance with different allegories: prudence and justice.
The building preserves eighteenth-century facade, but the rest of the building would be rebuilt in 1957.
It should be noted also various inscriptions that can be found on the floor of the square, in Spanish and Euskera, which recall historical events of the city.
