Portal de l'Àngel
Portal de l'Angel is one of the main pedestrian precincts in the centre of Barcelona, where gates of medieval city walls used to be situated once. It runs from Plaza de Catalunia and Plaza de la Catedral joining the Prtaferrisa through the Cucurulla street.
The name of the street means 'a portal of an angel' and comes from a figure of an angel situated next to the gates since the medieval times. Besides that, there is a legend saying that in 1419, when the saint Vincent Ferrer was staying in the city, an angel appeared in front of him in that place.
On the street there is one of the biggest shopping centres of the capital city of Catalonia, known mostly for famous brands, which have their boutiques there.
Very close to Portal de l'Angel, on a narrow Monsio street branching off from the main pedestrian precinct, the famous la Casa Marti designed by de Puig i Cadafalch is located. It is considered to be a jewel of modernism. The 'Els Quatre Gats' restaurant is situated there too, a very famous building because at the turn of 19 and 20 centuries it used to be a meeting place of Barcelona's intelligence.
