Copernic House

House of Nicholas Copernicus in Torun is located at street Copernicus 15/17. It is the probable birthplace of the astronomer. This is a group of two late-Gothic buildings from the late fifteenth century, rebuilt in the nineteenth century and reconstructed in 1960 - 1963. During the reconstruction the old internal structure and facade were restored (from the late fifteenth century). The building is an example of Torun Gothic houses of the Hanseatic merchants. The house No. 15 has a rich facade from the fourteenth century, restored in 1972. Its tracery painted decoration was restored during the renovation work in 1992 - 1994. Historically, Copernicus Street was named St. Anne Street. Currently, both buildings house a branch of the Regional Museum in Torun.
