Castle of Three Dragons
The Castle of Three Dragons, designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, is a modernist building built between 1887 and 1888 for the Universal Exhibition of 1888. It is located inside the Ciutadella Park, near the Barcelona Zoo, at the end of Avenida de Lluis Companys - avenue crowned by the Triumphal Arc. Although it was intended to serve as a restaurant since the Expo in 1920, today, it houses the Museum of Zoology of Barcelona .
Architecturally, built of brick and wrought iron and covered with ceramic tiles, the castle resembles a medieval castle with battlements around the top. It was designed by Josep Llimona and constitutes one of the greatest works of this famous Catalan architect. The name of the castle was most likely adapted from a novel by Serafí Pitarra.
