Golden Lane (Zlatá ulička) - a picturesque street in Prague, in Prague Castle (Pražský Hrad) in Hradcany district.
Formerly called the goldsmith street because it was probably the seat of local jewelers - Jews working for the Treasury, which are thus sheltered behind the walls of the castle. It was created between the Romanesque and late Gothic fortifications north of the castle. For the castle's defensive wall arches, built around 1500 by Benedict Rejtana, small houses were built (see above them a piece of the wall). Attic houses creates a defensive walkway connecting the towers White and Daliborska.
In the sixteenth century there were a replacement dwelling. Later, at the Golden Prague street lived the poor. In the twentieth century changed the nature of the street.
In house No. 22 in 1917 Franz Kafka wrote his works. Currently they are in the original shops, galleries and exhibitions,
