Science Museum - Cosmocaixa

CosmoCaixa also known as Museum of Science in Barcelona is a museum that shows to public various exhibitions related to science. The expositions are either temporary or permanent, e.g. 'Toca, toca!' associated with wild animals or the Planetarium with it's astronomic shows. They are presented in a manner to encourage a common person to learn and extend the knowledge about experimental sciences. It is important to mention that in the entrance you can find a replica of 'Péndulo de Focault'. The building was constructed in years 1904 - 1909 in a Art Nouveau style. CosmoCaixa designed by architect Josep Domènech i Estapà is located in the district of Sant Gervasi. At the beginning was used as a religious asylum. Afterwards in year 1981 opened to the public as a museum of science. Recently was reconstructed, extended and converted into the actual CosmoCaixa by architects Robert and Esteve Terradas.

The present complex has more than 50000 square meters, of which 30000 are covered by the building. During the reconstruction they preserved the principal nave which was done in Art Nouveau style and added constructions based on structures from metal and steel. The new area also contains 9 trees illuminated by the light and a big square with nice views of the city.
