The Picasso Museum in Barcelona, located in La Ribera district (Barceloneta), is a museum dedicated to the famous father of cubism, Pablo Picasso which houses more than 3,800 of his works. It is also a place where exhibitions of other works which are related to the master are staged. Inside the museum, visitors can find lots of information about Picasso's life - his childhood, adolescence as well as the last days of his life. This is possible thanks to a close collaboration between the artist and his friend and secretary, Jaume Sabartes, a sculptor and a writer who was an enthusiastic publisher of Picasso's works.
The museum is located on Calle Moncada in Barcelona, which is famous for the numerous Catalan palaces that can be found there. Picasso's works are housed in five large palaces which have features characteristic of the Catalan civil Gothic style. These buildings have a similar structure with a shared bailey in the centre, from which one one can access the first floor through an exterior staircase. These palaces date back to the 13th and 14th century, and despite having been often extensively remodelled, their architectural form remains very interesting. All of the palaces in which the museum is located - the Palace of Aguilar, Baró de Castellet, Palau Meca, Casa Mauri, and Palau Finestres, belonged to the Catalan noble families.
