Olympic Village - Port Olympic

The Olympic Village (La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou) is a neighbourhood in the district of Sant Marti in Barcelona built for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona to house the athletes participating in the event. It was the first maritime district in Barcelona, the buildings of which were mostly designed by the architects of the MBM company: Oriol Bohigas, Josep Maria Martorell, David Mackay and Albert Puigdomènech. Apart from the residential buildings, also a shopping centre Icaria and a marina called Port Olympic were built. Port Olympic is situated at the foot of the two tallest skyscrapers in Barcelona, which were built during the renovation of Barcelona coastal area for the 1992 Olympic Games.

The neighbourhood has a large promenade and plenty of bars and restaurants. This is why, at night the residential area transforms into a leisure centre, particularly around the Olympic Port and the Paseo Marítimo. The nearest beach the Nova Icaria, is one of the most crowded beaches in Barcelona.
